Monash Research Study

Dr Ross Iles and his team from Monash University are seeking participants willing to assist new research by sharing a survey invitation with people with different experiences of Australia’s range of income support systems. We are aiming to find out more about what happens when people change income support systems due to their health. The other researchers involved in this study are Professor Alex Collie, Dr Narelle Warren, Dr Jason Thompson and Ms Rachel Osborne.

What does the research involve?

People can receive income support from paid work, insurance systems (such as workers’ compensation or life insurance) or social security (Centrelink). Each system is different in terms of the amount of income support provided, the length of time they provide support for and whether they pay for things like health care. Not much is known about how many people move between the different systems, how easy it is to change systems or the choices people make when they do change.

To take part in this study, participants will be invited to complete an online survey about their experiences with income support, which will take approximately 20 minutes, depending on their answers. Participants can choose to remain completely anonymous. At the end of the survey, participants will be invited to register their interest in taking part in a telephone or online interview.

Everyone who completes the survey can go into a prize draw to win one of 100 shopping vouchers to the value of $50 each. To enter the prize draw participants only need to complete the survey and provide contact details so we can get in touch with them if they are a winner.

Storage of data

This study has been approved by the Monash Human Research Ethics Committee. To ensure the confidentiality of the study participants, all electronic study data will be stored at Monash University in a secure research environment, including secure access through an encrypted network and data storage and backup in a secure data centre. Data will be stored for seven years after conclusion of the study, and after this time electronic copies will be permanently deleted and any hard copy information will be destroyed using secure document destruction processes.
