Here we outline key concessions that you may be eligible for that will give you the support you need.

National Disability Insurance Scheme

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and My Aged Care are two major changes to how people in the MS community access support. The NDIS supports people under the age of 65, while My Aged Care is geared towards supporting people over 65. 

There are a number of concessions we’ve listed below, however it’s important to know that many of these are transitioning or already transitioned to the NDIS. We recommend you reviewing the information from this link to explore the NDIS further.

Water and Sewerage Concession

A water account holder with one of the eligible cards i.e. Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, Veteran’s affairs Gold Card can get a reasonable (%) deduction on water and sewerage charges.
To apply, a person needs to contact their Water Retailer. They will check the concession card details with Centrelink-Services Australia and (if valid) will apply the concession to your account.

 

 

 

 

Medical Cooling Concession

The Medical Cooling Concession provides a 17.5 per cent discount on electricity bills over the summer period and is paid in addition to the Annual Electricity Concession.

Disabled Persons’ Parking Permit

Application form is available from your local council. Your local doctor will also need to fill in the form.

Half Price Taxi Card

The Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) makes transport more accessible and affordable for people with a severe disability. The MPTP Card is issued by Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV).

MPTP members receive 50 per cent off the standard fare (covering up to $60 per trip).

Emergency Wheelchair & Scooter Assist

RACV Emergency Wheelchair & Scooter Assist provides you with eight service calls per subscription year. Usually it is very easy for us to get you moving again, but if for some reason we cannot fix the problem, a taxi will be dispatched to transport you to your home address or chosen destination. Members can utilize one taxi per breakdown up to a maximum value of $60 per trip. A total of eight taxi callouts are available per annum.

Please note an establishment fee**of $50 applies to RACV Wheelchair & Scooter Assist in the first year of subscription. Unfortunately this service cannot include assistance in lifting a person out of a wheelchair.

The Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS) provides a payment to help with some of the costs of your continence products.

SWEP State-wide equipment program

The State-wide Equipment Program (SWEP) provides services and systems that support consumers, and the practitioners who work with them, to access assistive technology (AT) items that meet their goals and needs.

Mobility Allowance

MOB is an income support payment paid to people with a disability, aged 16 or over, who cannot use public transport without substantial assistance and are required to travel to and from their home in order to undertake approved activities, which include work, study, training or job search.

Carers Allowance

A fortnightly supplement if you give additional daily care to someone who has a disability, serious illness, or is frail aged.
